Error Codes
- reference
The error codes that Operational Insights returns, with their messages and what they mean.
When a request fails, the response contains an errors array.
Each entry has a numeric code and a msg.
The following tables list each error code with its message, and describe when the error occurs and what to do about it.
In messages, [string] stands for a value that is filled in when the error occurs, such as a name or a number.
20xxx Codes (authorization)
| Code | Message | Description |
|---|---|---|
20000 |
Unauthorized user. |
The request could not be authenticated: no credentials were supplied, or the username and password or client certificate were not accepted. It is also raised when the data service rejects the credentials used to stream data into a link. Check the credentials and retry. |
20001 |
Insufficient permissions or the requested object does not exist |
The user is authenticated but does not hold the role needed for the statement or REST call, for example read access to a collection the query uses, or permission to manage a link. The same error is returned when the object does not exist, so that its existence is not disclosed. Check the object name and the user’s roles. |
20002 |
Invalid credentials for link [string] |
The remote cluster rejected the username and password configured on the named remote link, either because the user does not exist there or the password is wrong. Update the link’s credentials with |
20003 |
Link authentication failed: [string] |
Authentication with the remote cluster of a remote link did not complete: the remote cluster returned an unexpected response during the handshake, or none of its nodes could be reached. The value shown gives the reason. Check that the remote cluster is running and reachable from every node, then retry. |
20004 |
Access denied: user lacks necessary permission(s) to access resource |
The user is authenticated but is not permitted to call the REST endpoint, or the user configured on a remote link lacks the permission the remote cluster requires for the operation. Grant the missing role to the user concerned. |
21xxx Codes (API errors)
| Code | Message | Description |
|---|---|---|
21000 |

21019 |
Parameter '[string]' or '[string]' is required if '[string]' is provided |
A parameter was supplied that needs one of two other parameters alongside it, and neither was given. Add one of the two named parameters. |
21020 |
Parameter '[string]' is not allowed if '[string]' is provided |
Two parameters that cannot be combined were both supplied, typically two different authentication methods in the definition of a link or external collection, such as an access key together with an instance profile. Keep only the parameters for the method you intend to use. |
21021 |
Invalid value for parameter '[string]', allowed value(s): [string] |
The named parameter of a link or external collection accepts only a fixed set of values, and the value supplied is not one of them. Use one of the values listed. |
21022 |
Cannot pause cluster due to active stream [string] |
A request to pause the cluster was refused because the named link is still connected and ingesting data. Disconnect all links, then retry the pause. |
22xxx Codes (connection errors)
| Code | Message | Description |
|---|---|---|
22001 |
Connect link failed [string] |
|
22002 |
Disconnect link failed [string] |
|
22003 |
[string] buckets are not supported |
The bucket a collection is created on, or a link connects to, is a Memcached bucket, from which data cannot be streamed. Use a Couchbase or Ephemeral bucket. |
22004 |
Invalid cluster compatibility version for remote link [string]: must be >= [string], but was [string] |
The remote cluster of the named link runs a version too old to be used as a remote link source. The minimum and actual cluster compatibility versions are shown. Upgrade the remote cluster. |
22005 |
Failed to connect link '[string]': [string] |
The remote cluster of the named link could not be reached, because of a network or socket error, a certificate problem, or a timeout. The detail shown gives the cause. Check that the remote cluster is running, that firewalls allow the connection, and that the link’s certificates are correct. |
22006 |
Unknown bucket type [string] is not supported |
The bucket a collection is created on, or a link connects to, reports a bucket type that the service does not recognise, so data cannot be streamed from it. Use a Couchbase or Ephemeral bucket. |
23xxx Codes (runtime errors)
| Code | Message | Description |
|---|---|---|
23000 |
The service is temporarily unavailable |
The request could not run because the cluster is not fully available: the service is starting, recovering or shutting down, or a node has failed, is restarting, has not joined yet, or cannot be reached. This is usually temporary. The request can be retried; if the error persists, check that every node running the service is up and healthy. |
23001 |
The service requires a rebalance to be operational |
Some indexes on the service’s nodes must be rebuilt before the service can run requests, typically after an offline upgrade from an older release, so requests are rejected until that is done. Rebalance the cluster to make the service operational again. |
23003 |
Operation cannot be performed during rebalance |
A statement or REST request that changes metadata or link state, such as a |
23004 |

[string] cannot be dropped while link [string] is connected |
A |
23007 |
Job queue is full with [string] jobs |
The request was rejected because the maximum number of requests are already waiting for resources to run. The request can be retried later; if this happens often, reduce the number of concurrent requests. |
23008 |
Job requirement [string] exceeds capacity [string] |
The query needs more memory or CPU cores than the whole cluster can provide, so it can never be scheduled. This is usually caused by memory or parallelism settings such as |
23009 |
No result set for job [string] |
The results of the request could not be found, for example because results of a deferred (asynchronous) request were requested after they had expired or been discarded. Run the query again. |
23010 |
Job [string] has been cancelled |
The query was cancelled while it was running or waiting to run, for example because a client or an administrator cancelled the request. Run the query again if the cancellation was not intended. |
23011 |
Overflow in [string] |
An arithmetic operation or aggregate, such as |
23012 |

23015 |
Cannot convert the [string] type to the [string] type. |
A value could not be converted to the type required at that point, for example a numeric value to an incompatible type, or a value whose kind (object, array, number) does not match the type it is being read or stored as. Check the types of the values and fields involved. |
23016 |

23036 |
Parsing error [string]: [string] |
Data read from an external source, such as a JSON, CSV or TSV file, could not be parsed. The message names the file, line and field where possible, and the problem found. Fix the source data; for some formats the error is reported as a warning and the bad record is skipped. |
23037 |
Record is too large. Maximum record size is [string] |
